Szabolcs Panyi is a Hungarian investigative journalist at the non-profit journalism center Direkt36 and founder/editor of the Central European investigative platform VSquare.org. He covers corruption, national security, authoritarian threats and Russian and Chinese influence.

 

As part of the Pegasus Project, he exposed spyware abuse in Hungary—he was also a surveillance target himself. He is a recipient of the Free Media Award 2024, was twice a European Press Prize finalist, and has won Hungary’s Transparency-Soma award for best Hungarian investigative journalism five times.
