Paul Vugts has worked for the Amsterdam website and newspaper Het Parool for over 25 years, mainly as a crime reporter. He wrote the books "Hells Angels, motorcycle club or crime gang" (2004, with Henk Schutten), "The war in the Amsterdam underworld" (2006, with Bart Middelburg), "The fight against the Amsterdam underworld" (2011), "Doorgeschoten, the new generation of unstoppable criminals" (2014) and "Afrekeningen", the underworld war on the street and in the courtroom (2017, updated in 2023).

In 2006, together with Bart Middelburg, he published "De Endstra-tapes; the integral conversations of Willem Endstra with the police" - the controversial file that formed the core of the then extortion trial against Willem Holleeder, provided with context and explanation.

He has a weekly column in Het Parool, of which the collection "Crime Journalist", a critical look at the upper and underworld, was published in 2024.

He gives lectures, points out news and backgrounds in documentaries, interviews and talk show fees, and has a popular weekly podcast with colleagues Corrie Gerritsma and Wouter Laumans, "The Parool Crime Podcast". The three also perform in the theater with a show derived from that podcast.
